IS UNPROTECTED ORAL SEX SAFE?
As a courtesy to our website viewers, we feel it encumbered upon us to share this information:
It's a common question:
"Can I contract HIV or diseases through unprotected or 'natural' oral sex?"
Contrary to popular belief, a number of studies have demonstrated that oral sex can result in the
transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Although the risk is many times
smaller than unprotected anal or vaginal sex, HIV has been transmitted to receptive partners through fellatio (french),
even in cases when insertive partners didn't ejaculate.
Scientists have documented a number of other sexually transmitted diseases that have also been transmitted
through oral sex. Herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, genital warts (HPV), intestinal parasites (amebiasis), and
hepatitis A are examples of STDs which can be transmitted during oral sex with an infected partner.
You cannot often tell by looking at someone, or looking at their genitals, if they are 'clean' or not. Alarmingly,
many consider oral sex to be a safe or no risk sexual practice. This is an incorrect assumption, to
protect yourself you must use protection for ALL sexual contact outside of a monogamous relationship.
